About Dr. Grace LaJoy Henderson

Dr. Grace LaJoy Henderson is an author, educator, and creator of The Gracie Series, with more than two decades of experience developing books and educational resources that encourage learning, reflection, and positive life skills.

​

She is the author of more than thirty books, including A Gifted Child in Foster Care: A Story of Resilience and the Finding Mother Series. Her work has been used in public and charter schools, and two chapters from her memoir were published by Pearson Higher Education in a college textbook.

​

Dr. Grace LaJoy holds a doctorate in Christian Counseling with an emphasis in Writing and Research, master's degrees in Education and Curriculum and Instruction, and degrees in Social Psychology and Office Management.

​

Through Dr. Grace LaJoy Literacy & Life Skills, she brings together stories, educational activities, and professional development resources designed to support literacy, strengthen life skills, and encourage meaningful learning experiences for children, families, and educators.

The Literacy & Life Skills Library

Throughout her years as an author and educator, Grace LaJoy created educational resources for children, students, families, and educators at different stages of her life and career. Eventually, she recognized that although these resources had been created at different times and for different audiences, they shared a common purpose.

​

That realization led to Dr. Grace LaJoy Literacy & Life Skills, a free online library bringing together educational resources for different ages and stages of learning. The library includes The Gracie Series for younger children, A Gifted Child in Foster Care for middle-grade learners, the Finding Mother Series for older students and adults, and professional development resources for educators, writers, parents, caregivers, and others who use stories as tools for learning.

What began as individual stories and resources created over many years became something Grace LaJoy had not originally planned—a single place where decades of writing, teaching, lived experience, and educational work could be shared freely with anyone who might find it useful.

Today, Dr. Grace LaJoy Literacy & Life Skills reflects the purpose that has guided her work from the beginning: using stories and real-life experiences to support literacy, critical thinking, meaningful discussion, character development, and practical life skills.
